Event Details:
In spring 2023, a series of poems based on the idea of "hope" were installed in downtown Prince Albert through the Hope Pop-up Poetry Project, spearheaded by local writer, Lynda Monahan . This project stemmed from the presence of the word "hope" throughout Prince Albert. For the last several years, locals have come across the word painted on stones, or written in snow and sand. The word seems to have become an unofficial emblem of the city.
The poems in the Hope Pop-Up Poetry Project were submitted by local emerging and established artists, and selected by Lynda Monahan. They range from meditations on personal life, to ruminations on what "hope" means for communities in Prince Albert, to descriptions of natural and urban spaces in the region.
On September 9th at 11:00 AM at Memorial Square (City Hall), we invite you to an outdoor poetry reading based on the pop-up project. Ten local writers will read their poems on "hope." Then, the mic will be open for anyone present to share their poetry that is inspired by "hope."
This event is free and open to the public. It is supported by the Municipal Cultural Action Plan and the City of Prince Albert.
