Event Details:
Join artists Leah Marie Dorion and Ashley Smith for their last summer art installation: Métis Lobstick! The installation will take place at the Mann Art Gallery in the flowerbed next to the wolf sculpture “Mahihkan” by Joe Fafard. The lobstick will be freestanding, and inserted into a sufficiently deep hole in the ground, so it can stand upright.
.
What is a lobstick? Serving as a location marker for wayfinding or celebration purposes, this contemporary version of a traditional Métis lobstick will “mark” the bridge as the entrance to Prince Albert and welcome visitors to our city and our gallery. The lobstick will be created from an approximately 10 – 12 foot tall pine/spruce log, approximately 1 foot or less in diameter, which the artists and community members have stripped and decorated with wood burning, tying cloth, and more!
